Ground Mexican cumin
Cumin is an umbelliferous herb with white or reddish flowers and oval seeds, with an aromatic odor and pungent taste. It is used in both medicine and cooking as a spice.
Originally from Egypt, this spice is widely used in the Mediterranean especially in Morocco, other Arab countries, India, Mexico, etc.
It is a very important spice in Arab culinary culture as part of couscous. In Spain, it is used in many dishes such as gazpacho. In traditional Indian cuisine, it is used in curries and garam masala; it is also used in lamb dishes in Moroccan cuisine. In Europe, it is still used in the north, as a flavoring in German dishes such as sauerkraut, pickles, sausages and certain Dutch cheeses.
Like most spices, it has digestive properties: antispasmodic, stomachic (as a tonic, stimulating the digestive process) and carminative (prevents flatulence). Traditionally, it is used in Indian culture as a stimulant in breast milk production (galactogen), for insomnia and fever. Titura is used for skin conditions.
